Oh, Good Friday, where is my seafood?

I grew up in South Louisiana, and in that region Good Friday is a huge holiday.  I mean huge, almost as big as Easter Day.  Many business are closed, schools are closed, and families gather for seafood boils.  (A crawfish boil is similar to a low country boil, but cajun style!)

This year, we couldn't make the trip due to work and school schedules and my mouth is watering for some good, South Louisiana seafood!!!!  Whoa is me!!

Alison Sweeney: More beautiful as she ages

I have watched "Days of our Lives" for many many years...I mean like 30 years (since I was a child watching it with my mom).  Alison Sweeney has been on the show as Sami Brady for years, and all I can say is that she gets more beautiful with age.  I love her on the new cover of Redbook!

The Biggest Loserhost and soap star Alison Sweeney graces REDBOOK's May cover, on newsstands April 10th. In the interview, the mother of two, and TV star opens up about motherhood, marriage and her busy (yet healthy!) lifestyle.

I never had a "green thumb"...until now!

This post brought to you by Scotts®. All opinions are 100% mine.

My husband will tell you, I have no green thumb!! In fact, my hubby always tells me, "I handle the outside, and you handle the inside!"  Unfortunately, I pretty much kill every plan I touch...until now!

My kids have a swing set in the backyard, and underneath is a small 3x3 area which is supposed to be a sandbox.  I didn't want to deal with sand so my hubby and I decided to make the area a little flower garden.  I took on the project myself...a first for me. I went to the local hardware store and asked for flowers that would grow in the shade.  They gave me four beautiful iris plants.

Instead of using regular garden soil, I used the new Miracle Gro Expand ‘n Gro™ specially formulated to help you get big, beautiful results anywhere you plant – whether in‐ground or in pots.  And let me say, WOW, what a difference!!  I can now brag that I have a green thumb!

I can say that the new soil lives up to it's promises:

  • Up to 3X the Flowers and Vegetables!* *versus native soil
  • Significantly improves soil for multiple years
  • Concentrated planting mix expands up to 3X when water is added
  • Feeds for up to 6 months
  • All natural fibers hold up to 50% more water than basic potting soil

Want to see results for yourself?  Well goo dnews, I am giving away a smaple of o try Miracle-Grow Expand ‘n Gro™?  Please leave me a comment and one person will receive a free sample, perfect for your Spring and Summer garden!

If I could redo one thing as a Parent...

If I could re-do one thing as a parent, I would have started my kids eating "regular food" from the beginning.  I would have never introduced mac & cheese, chicken nuggets and such.  I would go back and INSIST that my kids eat whatever I fixed hubby and I for dinner.  I WANT ONE FAMILY DISH each night.

What is wrong with our society today that parents fix two separate meals each night?  A friend of mine from France said that this is unheard of there.  But here in the US, we are all guilty, me included. I have done it for years, and I don't know why.  Convenience I guess.  Or not wanting to hear the kids whine.

Fortunately, my son is a healthy eater.  He will eat anything or at the very least try one bite.  (In fact, last month while eating out, he ordered a caesar salad--impressive for a then-four-year old!)  But, my daughter, god bless her, is a cheese pizza, McDonald's nuggets and buttered spaghetti noodle girl.  I can't get her to eat any other meat (with the exception of bbq pork on occasion).

Now it's a habit that we are into and I just can't break. Well, let's hope this is the only parenting regret I ever have!  Happy eating ya'll!

Fun and quick recipe for Easter Bread.

For the past two years, I have made this Easter Egg bread for the first time. I had so much fun and hope your try it this year! There is some time involved, but you will be pleased with the results!
(And yes, this is a picture of how my Braided Easter Egg Bread came out! Not bad, uh?)

I'm Feeling Coastal Today...

My new issue of Coastal Living arrived yesterday!  (It's my first subscription issue to this pub.  I have always loved Southern Living, and recently my friend Ron at The Uptown Acorn, inspired me to try this pub too!)

I live in Central Florida, only 45 minutes from the Coast, yet my home has nothing "coastal" about it.  It's time for me to own the fact that I have been in Florida for 15 years and embrace my surroundings!  My home is traditional and comfortable  (after all I have a five and six year old running around!) but I want to find small pieces of "coastal" to bring in and add some

Here are some photos that have given me inspiration:

Underwater Tints

Natural Calm

So what's your decorating style? Do you have any coastal pieces that may inspire me?
